It’s Bacon Us Hungry Just Thinking About It

We love us some bacon. It’s a habit we just can’t quit no matter how many New Year’s resolutions we make. However, there’s no getting around it – those yummy breakfast meats are just plain BAD for us. Just in case we needed another medical warning/reminder on processed meats, this latest article on the dangers of the maybe-not-so-good stuff comes from Yahoo News:

“Eating processed meat such as sausages or bacon increases the risk of pancreatic cancer, according to a new study.

Swedish researchers analyzed data from 11 clinical trials and 6,643 pancreatic cancer patients, BBC News reported.

They concluded that the risk of pancreatic cancer increases by 19 percent for every 50 grams of processed meat a person adds to their daily diet. Consuming an extra 100 grams per day would boost the risk by 38 percent.

The study appears in the British Journal of Cancer.

Previous research has linked consumption of red and processed meat with colorectal cancer.”

Well it’s the new year, and we’re back to work after a few too many holiday parties. Morning coffee may be more necessary than ever these days. If you’ve resolved to enhance your java experience this year, read on.

1, Buy whole beans. The scent and flavoring of your coffee will be greatly enhanced if you can keep your coffee beans intact right up until you’re ready to drink.

2. Grind your own. Now that you have the whole beans, you can buy a coffee grinder for 20 dollars at any kitchen store – if you want to splurge, you can find them ranging up to 200.00.

3.Keep it cold. You can keep that stale coffee taste away if it’s kept in an airtight container in the freezer – NOT the fridge.

4. Go French. Buy a french press for 30 dollars and get a superior cup of coffee. It’s easy to use and keeps the oils in your cup instead of the filter.

5. Go pure. The better water quality you use, the better your coffee will taste. Use tap water that has been refrigerated for two hours, stored in a glass container.

Three Reasons Why You Should Drink More Water Around The Holidays:

1. The air is dryer. Winter is upon us. It’s freezing outside, and your skin is getting the sh** kicked out of it. Moisturizer can only do so much. Drinking water will hydrate you from the inside, therefore keeping your brain and body alive and kicking.

2. You’re drinking more celebratory moonshine. Alcohol dries you out, so keep your skin looking dewey and the hangovers at bay by downing a glass of water for every alcoholic beverage you consume.

3. You’ll eat less. Drinking water before eating fills you up, so you’re bound to gorge less on holiday goodies if you consume at least a glass or two before indulging at your next party or work event. Water also aids constipation and flushing out toxins at this time of year is always a good idea!

3. Load up on water and avoid dehydration which can occur through those months of morning sickness. And because dehydration can actually increase nausea, employ a pre-empitve strike, and drink as much as you can.
4. Proper hydration allows your body to maintain a healthy amount of amniotic fluid and can help reduce uncomfortable swelling.
5. Irregular uterine contractions can be brought on by dehydration. The American Pregnancy Association recommends that you drink up to 3 liters of water a day, and more if you’re exercising.
